Message from Superintendent Bill Vonada on the extended school closure

April 9, 2020

Dear CASD Parents/Guardians and Students:

As you are probably already aware, Governor Wolf extended the school closure for the remainder of the academic year this morning in efforts to protect the health and safety of students, staff and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although schools are closed, learning will continue as outlined in our Continuity of Education Plan, which is posted on our district website.  Our plan provides for Continuity of Education during this prolonged school closure by providing Enrichment and Review activities for all students.  It is important that students have the opportunity to maintain and develop skills while away from the customary school environment.  We believe that this plan best serves the needs of all students based on feasibility, availability of resources, and access and equity considerations.

Your child’s Principals have been communicating with you and will continue to do so as we implement our plan.  Your child’s teachers will strive to provide meaningful activities to their students and be there for them for guidance and support.    This pandemic has and will continue to affect us all on a personal level in some form or another.  As a school community, we can all work together during this unprecedented time to provide our kids with a sense of normalcy, encouragement and support and reassure them that this too shall pass.

Like you, we have many unanswered questions and concerns about what lies ahead and will keep you updated on new information as it is learned.  Be assured that we are working tirelessly toward the most positive and productive outcome for everyone.  I cannot stress enough the pride I have for our CASD communities and the resilience we have to overcome whatever obstacle presents itself.  I hope you remain healthy and strong and look forward to reconnecting as soon as we are permitted to do so.

Bill Vonada, Superintendent
