Venango County Truancy Info

Cranberry Area School District Parent/Guardian:

Success in school is enhanced by regular school attendance.  Cranberry Area School District is committed to procedures which can improve school attendance rates.

This letter is provided to inform you of the newly revised Venango County Truancy Protocol that was authorized on January 2, 2007.  Our school district and all others in the county will be following these attendance procedures.

Our goal is to work with students and families to address and prevent unlawful school absences which can lead to poor school performance and truancy charges.

Our district and parents are required to comply with all state requirements for student attendance and truancy.  We are providing a summary of the attendance/truancy laws so that you may be informed on this important issue.  An unexcused absence occurs when:

  • the student fails to submit his/her excuse within three (3) days upon his/her return to school
  • the excuse is not an acceptable reason under the Pennsylvania Compulsory School Laws, although signed by parent/guardian
  • the student has ten (10) cumulative excused absences for which no physician’s excuse is timely received by the school

If your student is found to be absent illegally, our school is required to follow the county procedures described in the attachment.

To prevent truancy issues from happening, please do your part to prevent our students from having unexcused absences.  We need your cooperation in this matter and we thank you in advance for your support.

If you have any questions regarding truancy, feel free to contact your building principal or me at the district office.

Sincerely,

William Vonada
Cranberry Area School District Superintendent
